Good Points:
No Pressure -- Hanging around with Kazuo is an open invitation just to relax and not worry about expectations. He's a non-judgmental sort of guy who is cool with whatever lifestyle or opinions you have, and among his friends and the people he respects (mostly the Senshi), he will go out to coffee with a hyperactive attention whore just as easily as he would a shy book-nerd, and he will sit there placidly and enjoy whatever conversation you have to throw at him. He's polite but not rigidly formal or critical of others in any sense, and even if he is concerned about a person, he will try to talk to them but he won't guilt, manipulate, or otherwise try to pressure them into an action. Kazuo doesn't hold people's past mistakes against them either, and just encourages them to get it right the second time. He's also quick to remind any Senshi that even if they have crystals and superpowers, they still completely have the right to act like teenagers and enjoy normal living in the present.
Man of Faith -- Once you win Kazuo's faith and trust, you have it forever. He will not question you or test your loyalty in any underhanded way, and he virtually never gets jealous or suspicious of the people he believes in. Not to say that he hands out his faith like candy (he watches people for a long time before he invests anything in them), but once you have his trust, you also have all of the support, encouragement, and help that he can provide for you. He even holds faith in the people who've betrayed him, and holds out hope that they may see sense again. Kazuo also has a high respect for other people's duties and abilities, especially the Senshi's, and so he never ever wants to seem like he is commanding them or telling them how to do their job. His faith in others and his interest in people's skills/abilities does help him correctly delegate responsibility when he has a leadership role, and prevents him from micromanaging inappropriately. But Kazuo currently doesn't feel comfortable with 'pushing' other people around, so there is little opportunity for this strength to appear.
Coordinated -- Kazuo is very precise in manipulating tools, gadgets, and gears, and he generally has amazing hand-eye coordination. He's very good at darts and other throwing games (carnival game vendors fear him), and though he's not a fan of shooter arcade games, he can hold his own. Kazuo is also pretty sure-footed and has a fine sense of balance, and he's a naturally wonderful slow dancer too. His brain and his body are overall very well-synced, and he doesn't fumble or stumble unless he is deep in some daydream world.
King of Urban Survival -- Thanks to experience, Kazuo excels at navigating life as a poor guy in a big city. He seems to have a sixth sense about knowing where to go for housing, who to try to get a temporary job from, where the best shopping districts are for cheap food, etc. He doesn't buy any technology that he can't fish out from behind an electronics store and fix himself, and almost all of his clothes are either bought at thrift stores or given to him second-hand from a friend or employer. He's fantastic at operating on a tight budget, and only overspends or impulse-buys if he is in a panic. This isn't the most glamorous of abilities, and he hasn't yet managed to be well-off in a financial sense, but he will always get two decent meals a day and shelter for the night, no matter how broke or lost he is. Which is definitely helpful, since he's not going to spend a single yen of his engagement ring fund on food.
Chivalry Is Not Dead... -- Holding doors open for women, carrying their heavy bags, giving up his seat on a bus or train (it kills him when other guys don't do the same), splitting the last sticky bun in the box with the lady...it's all common courtesy that Kazuo is constantly mindful of. Some of his politeness stems from terror - the only women Kazuo was regularly exposed to as a child were the Christian nuns who ran the orphanage he grew up in, and they did a great job of beating manners into him. He used to be very uneasy about being in regular, casual contact with younger women, and he's learned to compensate for all of his awkward shortcomings by being impeccably polite in behavior (or else, he'll just burn red with embarrassment and apologize profusely).
Flaws:
...But Tuxedo Kamen Probably Is -- It's nice to be a gentleman, but he is entirely too eager to throw himself into danger if he thinks it might prevent other people from unnecessary hardship. His attempts to intercept villains before the Senshi do tends to get him encased in diamond, or ensnared by evil vines, or kidnapped, or otherwise taken out of commission before a battle really gets underway (he seems to always get knocked onto his back one way or another, which isn't too bad considering the Senshi's miniskirts). Protecting Sailor Moon is his number one concern, but if he can help it, he won't let a single attack hit any of the girls. This could cramp the style of some of the more offensive Senshi, plus this obviously puts his own life into constant danger. Surprisingly, even getting gravely injured few times has not been enough to teach Kazuo a lesson about self-sacrifice - he is very stubborn about his assumed role as the Senshi's human shield and decoy, and he believes he's not useful in battle for much else than that.
Brain-Washing Magnet -- Kazuo is much more ashamed of his sensitivity to mind-control than he ever could be about getting captured or killed. Magical attacks that prey on the mind tend to have maximum effect on him, and brainwashing tends to work splendidly on him. He is also particularly sensitive to subliminal messages and projected dreams. He tries to compensate for his vulnerability by trying not to reveal his weaknesses or fears, but that has limited success, especially since it's obvious to the world that his heart beats for Mitsuko. When he is very worried, confused, and stressed-out, he opens himself more to psychic attack, and but being more calm, secure in his goals, and faithful in himself and other people helps Kazuo shield himself against outside control.
Space Case -- But at times it seems like there is absolutely nothing going on in his head at all, so it'd be no wonder why villains try to hijack such an easy target. Sometimes, completely out of nowhere in a conversation, his ability to focus just evaporates and he spaces out, becoming completely oblivious to the world around him. Talk to him and he will totally not hear you, at least until you smack him or wave something in his face. This isn't a problem of nothing going on in his head. His mind would be active, but it's probably musing about something that has absolutely no bearing on what's happening at the moment (perhaps on the book he's reading at home, or wondering what his girlfriend is up to). When he snaps out of it, he pretends that he knows what's going on, but it's clear that he was in outer space for about five minutes there.
People closer to him would probably recognize a certain serious, glazed look he gets in his eyes when he's pretending to listen to a group's battle plan but is instead considering doing his own solo-mission, which is likely Some Totally Stupid Martyr Plan That Will Definitely Get Him Hurt (but for the sake of the girls, of course). And it is impossible to sway him from his Stupid Plans.
Stubborn Loner -- Kazuo spent his whole life taking care of problems by himself, so he doesn't instinctively think of teaming up with other people. His immediate, gut reaction to any situation is that he should work alone, and that other people shouldn't get involved in his duties and problems. So he's a free agent who will help people and try to encourage them, but only on his own accord, and he rarely collaborates on anything and he almost never agrees to partnerships. He never allows himself to be lead around either, and will really just ignore most orders that other people try to give him (work is one of the few exceptions here). If he sees a villain in action, he does not first call for back-up, but instead immediately pursues the villain and tries to take him/her down on his own. Or if he otherwise has a Stupid Martyr Plan about how to best solve a problem, Kazuo tends to go ahead and do it without consulting anybody, and he always thinks that he'll be able to sort out the problem just by himself. He's also the sort of guy who will agree to a group's plan and then do the complete opposite without warning - again, not because he's egotistical, but because he thought about the plan and just believes his idea (and sacrifice) will cause other people the least inconvenience in the long-run (really, it's no surprise if people want to bite his head off).
Don't Be Fooled By the Glasses -- Though Kazuo can be slow on the uptake at times, he's no moron, and he can be insightful in practical ways. But he does have a considerable lack of academic knowledge. It seems as if his rural schooling gave him enough language and math skills so that he could do his taxes and pass the basic national exams, then simply failed him in all other respects. He could barely name all of the planets before he met the Senshi. He can't tell you the rate of gravity or what a range is. He knows less kanji than he would like to admit (he always reads his books with the help of a dictionary). He thinks Siberia is a country. And so on. This isn't Kazuo's fault so much as it is a fault of his education, and after meeting the Negaverse Senshi he became painfully aware of the gap in their knowledge, and he is mostly unable to help anybody with schoolwork (he would like Izumi as a person, but being around her makes him want to sulk in the corner and eat pages out of an encyclopedia). He tries to glean more education through novels and game shows, but he knows that's not the same as being formally taught. And since he keeps failing his night classes due to a high absence rate, he is doubly frustrated because he is unable to catch up.
Personality:
Overview
At first glance, nothing about Kazuo really impresses people - in fact, he comes across as an absolutely unremarkable guy. Kazuo is a respectably quiet man and known for being a reliable, hard worker with practical ambitions for himself, and though he doesn't have a lot of money, he never begs or whines about his station. He is definitely on the awkward side though, and when he's not falling over himself try to be properly social or cool, he's lost in some spaced-out daydream world. Careful observers may also notice his absolute comfort in being alone and self-reliant, his tendency to keep his thoughts and feelings to himself, and his rock-solid stubbornness which is cloaked by a placid demeanor.
Most people (...well, most people who know his true identity as Endymion) would look at him and think "damn, they'll let anybody be a prince these days" since he is neither rich nor particularly brilliant, and most of his attempts to be high-class and suave are forced and come across as dorky. But his noble nature is apparent in his respect for each individual he meets and his support for their skills/dreams, in his attempts to act in accordance to the greater good, in his ambition to always become a better person than he was the day before, and in wish to sacrifice himself rather than let other people endure pain and hardship. Without his love for Mitsuko, none of these traits would have fully come to life - Kazuo is a textbook case of a guy who has been utterly inspired to be a better man by romance, and he will keep on trying to get better until he is a man whom everyone can rely on.
Self Image
In spite of his social anxieties, Kazuo has a fairly healthy self-concept. He's confident in his present lifestyle - it's not glamorous, but it's honest, and he puts in the best effort that he can. Kazuo sees himself on a road to slow but steady self-improvement, and he never pushes his abilities too hard, too fast. It's difficult for other people to discourage him and he is often only hindered by his own anxieties. But even then, if some person/thing/goal means the world to him, he will force himself to work through his anxiety for the sake of what's precious to him. Kazuo has Plans for himself that he knows that he will achieve some day. He's proud of what he does accomplish, and he is even more proud when he can create and do things independent of anybody else's help. He still can get defensive when people try to help him out, since he sees that as a proof of his weakness, but lately he's gotten better at accepted limited aid from others. Kazuo will just be very concerned with repaying your kindness in some way or another.
Self-consciousness creeps in when he feels like the odd-man-out in a group, which he feels is often the case. He tries to downplay or mask the features that he knows stands out, and so he tries to minimize his wide shoulders, wears ugly-fying glasses to avoid attention, and uses trivia to distract from his lack of education. He never brings up the fact that he's an orphan either. Kazuo is not forward enough to try to over-achieve and force people to accept himself and his past - he's quicker just to give up and sink into the background so he doesn't cause any upset or problems.
Before Kazuo dedicates himself to any idea or cause, he thoroughly second-guesses the motivations and morality behind them since he is afraid of repeating the mistakes he made as Prince Endymion. He's honestly very ashamed of how selfish he was in his past incarnation, and he feels like he has no right to call himself a Prince in this life, and he discourages other people from addressing or treating him like one (he knows he has a responsibility to the Earth, but he doesn't believe that he should get special treatment because of it). Kazuo believes that he is inherently self-centered, and so he's on a mission to redeem himself and do right by the Earth in this life. He is now very aware of the Greater Good, and tries to pick actions that will have the greatest long-term effects. Unfortunately, his belief that he is selfish often causes him to overdo it in terms of self-sacrifice.
Motives
Kazuo loves tangible things, tangible results, and just any sort of progress that he can see and feel. He is highly self-motivated and absolutely loves to see himself improve his skills, and he enjoys working hard and making himself more efficient. He'll get very excitable when he picks up on something new, even something as small as new trivia or learning how to braid. He's the uncompetitive sort though and judges himself only by his own standards, so he becomes fascinated by the special skills and achievements of other people without jealousy, and he honestly likes seeing other people improve themselves. He can be particularly encouraging if he feels like someone has given up on their potential, and he would prod them until they start acting on that potential once more. This can be perceived as being meddling (since he will NOT STOP PESTERING YOU. I did say that the boy is stubborn), but he really intends the best.
Like most other young men, Kazuo does not enjoy being brainwashed and having his body and power manipulated for evil purposes, and this happens most often when he is confused, discouraged, and lost. So he has worked very, very hard to create direction for himself so that he always has goals he can focus his will on, making it easier for him to try to break free from manipulation. Kazuo is constantly reminding himself about why his plans and commitments are so important to him, just as a way of reinforcing his heart and will. Even better, he has found that he enjoys dreaming and planning for the future. He gets very excited about drafting a One Month Plan or Six Month Plan or even a Three Year Plan for himself, and he actually writes out his bulleted plans in huge butcher paper and tacks it to his living room wall so he doesn't forget (cue hideous calligraphy). Kazuo's very good at keeping up with his long-term plans because he is persistent and he can pace himself, and because he doesn't mind getting to a goal at a slow and steady rate. He is just as good at drafting long-term plans for other people and for groups, though he won't dare do this unless he was invited to help out.
He still has his moments of thoughtless action, and these emerge when he is terrified that he is about to lose something or somebody he cares about. This explains some of the incidents where he's gotten very hurt in battle since he's so worried that if he doesn't instantly throw himself into the face of danger, he will lose his chance to protect other people. If he realized how upsetting his behavior was to Mitsuko and to his friends, even this behavior would be curbed. In most cases, once Kazuo realizes how much pain a decision of his causes others, he will stop immediately, then do his best to avoid making the same mistake again. However, it takes him a while to even realize he needs a change in tact, and he can repeat the same mistake a dozen times before realizing he needs to change.
Kazuo does highly respect the duties and actions that other people choose for themselves, so he doesn't understand why anybody would want to impose on his own convictions and actions. He believes so strongly in his abilities and his independent approaches to problems that he has a lot of trouble taking commands, or even just advice, from others. People tend to be surprised when they first encounter his stubbornness, especially since he comes across as an appropriately passive and agreeable young man. Kazuo's not the confrontational sort, yet in a conversational tone he would flat-out refuse commands that go against his convictions, or, to try to keep the peace, he would pretend to go along with the crowd and instead really attend to his own plans. If he was told to run laps, he would stare at you like you have a third ear, then say "no thank you" and go buy bottled water for the people who are running. If a Negaverse Senshi plan involved everyone storming a hideout together on Tuesday, he'd agree, then go infiltrate it alone on Monday night.
There are some exceptions to this, such as education - when he recognizes that someone can teach him a skill that he can't learn on his own, he will fall in line immediately and be very attentive student (...maybe too attentive, as he goes "why this?" "why that?" "how did you do this?" every three seconds). In the very very rare occasion that Kazuo approaches somebody for advice, he will take it to heart. Kazuo will also obey employers (a good thing to do if you want to get paid), but he is only a happy worker when he is given an individual task at work to finish in any method or pace he desires. Mitsuko is the only person he's ever considered a true partner and with whom he can actually collaborate with, but he still has some stupid convictions that even her pleas can't break, such as his insistence on being her Tuxedo Human Shield.
General Behavior
In the past year, he's gotten over his tendency to be withdrawn and shy, and now he will try to approach people he finds interesting or who seem discouraged somehow. However, does still have trouble figuring out how to engage other people in conversation, and he tends to over-think himself in his social interactions. He tries to calculate all of his words and actions so he comes across in the most appropriate light, but sometimes the sudden anxiety is too much for him and he ends up fumbling over his words or blurting out the first things that come to his mind. Kazuo either goes through a lot of words before he can get to his point, or he speaks too little and leaves out important points in his statement.
He spends a lot of his time embarrassed for some reason or another, and tends to clam up and shrink his presence so that people's attention will not return back to him. He also tends to zone out during conversations, typically when he thinks that the topic isn't going in a productive direction (talking about hair care? Then he's gone), so he'll go ahead and ponder about things that matter more to him. He's also notoriously dense when it comes to picking up subtle cues, so you need to be fairly obvious in your emotional expressions for him to understand that you are sad/happy/furious.
It's a lot easier for Kazuo to immediately get along with older people (35 and older) than with his peers. Not only does he have a high respect for his elders (again, he adores accomplishment, and respects all of the things an older person has done in their long lives), but he also finds that they aren't moody or unpredictable. For younger people, he feels like he has a much harder time anticipating reactions, and he feels like he has to stay on his toes or otherwise he'll make a fool of himself. He also grew up mostly around other boys, so dealing with a team of girls has been nothing short of terrifying for the past year, though he is over the trauma of it now (...mostly). He is a pleasant and insightful conversationalist when he can relax his anxieties, so it is worth it to be patient while he fumbles through the beginning of a conversation because he'll get easier to interact with as he warms up to you. Kazuo also becomes more animated when the conversation turns to abilities and productivity, and his conversational skills become a lot more fluid if you try talking to him while he has his hands busy with a project.
Once he warms up to you, he is so easygoing and encouraging that it can be easy to miss that Kazuo rarely talks about himself in return, not beyond blandly general things like "I like fixing toasters" and "blue is a nice color", so it can be frustrating to try to read him and understand his motivations and emotions. He even tries to plaster on a thin smile when he's distressed or depressed just so that people don't pry. He feels like he's the only person who can solve his own emotional problems, and he doesn't want other people feeling like they need to go out of their way just to boost his mood. When he is down though, you can tell because he won't get excited over anything that would normally get him chatty. If he is asked a question he feels is too personal (about his feelings, opinions, and his love-life or his past), he will gloss over it or give you white lies, and he won't feel guilty because it wasn't your business to ask in the first place, and so he is under no obligation to give you the truth.
He also responds poorly to other people's attempts to flirt with him...Kazuo has no idea why people would even want to flirt with him, since he doesn't think of himself as particularly attractive or special. He'll either be completely oblivious to the flirting (he'll assume that the flirter is just overly-friendly, or maybe a bit weird), or if the attempt is too obvious to miss, he will freak out and immediately try to put the person at a distance. Kazuo is not smooth enough to let a person down gently (to say the LEAST), so he'd rather just disappear from their life and hope that their fascination with him goes away. He might even get angry with a person flirting with him, especially since he assumes that it's obvious that he's already attached, so he'd take the attention as the flirter's way of saying "I'm better than your current girl" or "guys like you are too weak-willed to resist me anyway". This all might have to do with the trauma relating to a Psychotic Oracle Admirer. However, if you happen to be a Magical Moon Princess, flirting will be returned as he clumsily flirts back and tries to control his blushing (Tuxedo Kamen retreated quickly from his earliest battles not because he wanted to be Mysterious, but because Sailor Moon made him bashful as all hell).
His anger is a difficult thing to draw out. He doesn't like to give away what triggers his fears or upsets, and so he'll try to stay neutral and quiet in the face of all conflicts to mask what really sets him off. Throw insults to his face and he'll take it without fuss or a word in retaliation - very few insults actually hit his heart, and even then, he doesn't react to them immediately but at some later time of reflection. He will also try to intercept attacks on another person, because while Kazuo expects and is used to shouldering his own troubles alone, he hates seeing the people he cares for put into hard situations, and so he will try to take the burden and fire for them. Seeing a person put harsh expectations on others, or seeing people manipulated, are quick ways to set off his anger. But if you want to hurt Kazuo very badly, tell him that he's useless and tell him that his girlfriend is better off without him, and he will probably break character and actually display his upset. Push him far enough and in his rare moments of pure rage, he'll manifest it physically rather than verbally - he'll punch a wall or slam a door, and in battle, he's more than happy to thunder out critical blows on an opponent who has crossed his path too often.
After his anger cools, Kazuo is able to forgive people and extend his sympathies, especially since his worldview is one that says that anybody can become a better person if only given enough time. He's already forgiven the original Shitennou for their betrayal, and he wishes he knew how to resurrect them once again. He holds no anger towards Mara simply because of her brothers' actions. Well, Kazuo probably will have a bone to pick with Iblis over that "you killed my girlfriend" thing, but even under his fury, Kazuo is confused and saddened to see that Iblis and the Apprentices are still so hateful even though Metallia's influence is gone. While Kazuo clings to tokens of love and affection, he's learned that it does his heart no good to cling to hate, and he has learned to let go of his resentments. He'll be very careful around people who have previously crossed him, for sure, but Kazuo will give them a second chance. After all, he's still grateful to have his own second-chance at life and love after his own major screw-up.
As Tuxedo Kamen, he appears bolder, but there is no real change in personality. He dislikes limelight and will try to operate out of the shadows whenever he can, attacking with magic and roses from a distance and using his higher perspective of the battlefield to give the Senshi warnings (he would never dream of giving them directions though, so someone else can yell "Sailor Moon! Use your Sparklepants Attack!" for him). He is easily lured down when his allies start getting thrown around, and once he's in the ring, and he serves as a physical defense and a decoy while his allies prepare their spells, or as they escape the battle. Offensively, he does well in one-on-one duels, just as long as he doesn't have to worry about trying to defend other people at the same time. Overall, Tuxedo Kamen is really cool as long as his mouth is shut - he can't focus on battle and speak at the same time, so his taunts and encouragements alike may come across as bizarre, or at least stilted. He tries really really hard to speak in an upright, inspiring, yet intimidating way (again, like medieval adventure heroes he adores), but it's mostly just sad to even watch him. He does get flustered and very embarrassed when he realizes that he sounds like a total geek.
Intimate Behavior
Kazuo will be distant and dorky around most people until two conditions are met. First, he needs to interact with a person in a one-on-one talk, even in a situation so casual as having tea or waiting for the bus together. Sometimes Kazuo will approach a person himself for this, especially in a chance meeting where it would be even more awkward for him to leave, and sometimes he needs to be coaxed into meeting up with somebody. But if he has the chance to meet with someone individually rather than with a group, he starts to feel a lot more at ease with them instead of feeling 'ganged up' on. The second condition is that he needs to understand that there is some common bond between himself and the other person. It doesn't have to be as extreme as "we both had no money as kids" (oh hi Kyoko), and could be something as trivial as "we both like penguins". Something as simple as that makes him feel less like a complete stranger and less anxious, and from there, more of a relationship can be built. A person can really be considered a friend when Kazuo starts taking off his glasses around them - this indicates his confidence and comfort with the relationship, and that he's willing to let down some of his guards for the sake of the friendship.
As a friend, he is dependable, and he is genuinely interested in you and especially in what you like to do/make/create, and he urges his friends to constantly improve themselves (at a slow and steady rate, of course). If you have a concert/show/performance/merchandise going public, you bet that he'll show up to support you. He'll pop in for the rehearsals if he has the time. Kazuo will particularly support a friend he realizes is under a lot of stress, and although he's abysmal at figuring out what is stressing the person out, he will be gently encouraging and try to build back up his friend's confidence again. So he might be cheering you up because he thinks you are upset over a bad test grade (the real reason is because your boyfriend dumped you), but the attention is still flattering because he'll attempt to give you his full focus. Unlike his acquaintance relationships, Kazuo can disclose a little bit more about his opinions and past to his friends, and he would especially do this if he felt like a story about his life could make a friend feel better about their situation - he still never talks about himself just for the sake of talking, and would try to keep the conversation oriented on the other person.
The process of getting close to him takes time, for sure. Even after he is fully comfortable with an individual, his insecurities start to creep right back up in group situations. With the Negaverse Senshi, it's taken him months to get comfortable enough so that he can laugh and be casual when he's with the group. Newer groups won't immediately receive the same warmness, especially if he's unsure about their loyalty to Sailor Moon.
He really admires the Negaverse Senshi, and he genuinely wants to be considered a friend by each of them, but Kazuo is constantly worried that he is somehow ruining the dynamic between the girls. This is in part because he's a guy crashing an all-girl party, but he's also worried that the girls blame his previous interference in the Moon Kingdom for the downfall and deaths of everyone in the Silver Millennium (...oops). Being brainwashed and turned against them a few times also makes him insecure about their trust in him. Ultimately, Kazuo wouldn't blame any of the Negaverse Senshi for resenting him. If things came down to a serious confrontation with one of the Senshi, he'd back down immediately rather than let it escalate and ruin relationships, since he'd never want for people to hate Mitsuko because of him. But even if the Senshi hate his guts, he'd never stop trying to help them. In fact, Kazuo feels that the absolute least he can do for any person who supports Sailor Moon is to try to aid them in turn, and so he will constantly show up as Tuxedo Kamen despite of any group dynamics. If the Crisis Senshi prove they are loyal to Moon, then Tuxedo Kamen will help them, regardless of what the Negaverse Senshi decide.
Kazuo is truly a man who is being transformed by love, like some huge sappy blooming rose analogy. While most of his life has spent self-sustaining and independent, it was also a dead, cheerless existence. He had some distant friends, but nobody he was particularly close to, and nobody he felt like he could even platonically love and protect, and his personality was very quiet, dry, and serious. But in the past year since he's met Mitsuko and the other Senshi, he has emotionally grown A LOT in a short span of time. While he still definitely has problems with awkwardness and compromise, he has also learned that he is able to deeply care about people and that he does have the courage to stand up for them, tuxedo or not. Having friends and a girlfriend gives him a vitality that he didn't have before, as if his heart only started beating within the past year.
He's unsmooth and he's not rich or particularly classy, but he is committed deeply to Mitsuko and has complete faith in her - a faith and trust that he has never given anybody else in all of his life. His guards are torn down and he can openly share everything about his life to her, and his worries become trivial in the face of her reassurances. She inspires and energizes him, and her mere presence boosts his confidence. They make up for the weaknesses in the other and become very strong as a pair - for example, while Mitsuko might give up on herself, Kazuo encourages her not to lose faith in her potential, and while Kazuo is a stubborn idiot, Mitsuko is nothing but grace and helps him interact with others better. Absolutely nothing she could do would make Kazuo lose his love and trust for her, and even if he tried to distance himself from Mitsuko, his will would weaken and he'd just wander back like a lovesick puppy. While he is hopelessly smitten, he has no interest in advertising his romantic business all over the place, and so he won't be making out with her constantly in public or loom over her (he would be deeply embarrassed to be caught kissing her in public). But still, it would be hard to miss how his eyes follow her as she walks, how mentions of her can cause him to zone out, or how much more at ease he gets when she is close by. He has vivid, involved, and sometimes fabulously unrealistic daydreams about the life he imagines to have with her - this results in particularly dopey space-outs and extreme clumsiness.
